THE  LAWYER’S  OFFICE

The existing office is a continuation of  Mr. Mogens Birch’s office, which was situated in the building  No. 18 Dr. Jacobsensgøta, Tórshavn. Bjørn á Heygum became trainee lawyer at Mogens Birch’s office in August 1982.
At first it was a part-time job. Shortly afterwards Bjørn á Heygum started in another part-time job at the Tax Assessment Office where his main job was to deal with the Faroese Tax Appeals Tribunal’s cases and working as secretary to the Tax Assessment Office.

He worked in the two jobs until October 1985 when he left his job at The Tax Assessment Office in order to work as a trainee lawyer exclusively.
At the end of 1985/beginning of 1986 an agreement was made saying that Bjørn á Heygum was to take over Mr. Mogens Birch’s office as soon as he was admitted as a lawyer by the Ministry of Justice. Once the approval was received on the 20th January 1986 Mr. Mogens Birch’s legal practice was formally taken over .
At the same time the office moved into the premises of No. 3 J. Paturssonargøta, Tórshavn which were bigger as well as roomier than the old office. Since then the legal practice has been run from there. Alfred Petersen, who until then had been working with the local government as a principal dealing
with fishery as his field of responsibility, was appointed as a trainee lawyer in August 1988. Alfred Petersen was admitted as a lawyer in 1992 and that same year he was taken in as a partner of the legal practice.
The lawyer’s office has now bought bigger premises in No. 16 Bøgøta and is planning to move just before the end of year 2000.
